How Does Your Garden Grow?
We are growing our own food! Anwatin is one of Minneapolis Public Schools' pilot schools for the Garden to Cafeteria Program. We are so very proud to be part of this program and privileged to be able to document its progress using digital photography. Our hope is to engage to public in our efforts to grow our own organic food and work toward a healthier, sustainable tomorrow!

Investigate: Inquiring & Analyzing
To deepen our understanding of aesthetics, students will learn the basic guidelines for the art of composition for photographs. If you are absent any of the days while we are working on vocabulary, you can view the slideshow below to get the definitions for the vocabulary worksheet, which is a clickable link to a Google Doc on the right.
Students will then go outside into our beautiful school garden to take photographs. Each day outside, students will have composition objectives for their photographs. This is a chance to demonstrate your understanding of the art of composition. If you lose your worksheet, you can click the image on the right and be directed to a Google Doc.

Plan: Developing Ideas
The Design Specifications are a set of minimum requirements or constraints for the project; what you have to have in order to be graded. Your website must contain at least one original photo, and one edited photo with descriptions that use the composition objectives.
During the planning process, students will design their own success criteria. Rather than relying on what a teacher says about their finished product, the student will create a method for determining if they did a "good job." They must devise some kind of way to collect data to determine whether or not their final product was successful. |
Students must present multiple ideas for solutions to the design task. For this project students are designing a website and will need to submit multiple thumbnails for how to lay out the content of their websites.

Botanical illustration is the art of depicting plant species. They will often include a drawing of the whole plant, the seeds, flowers, and cross sections of the fruit (or vegetable) it bears.
Historically, these illustrations were collaborations between botanists and artists during the Renaissance period. Scientists and naturalists needed accurate illustrations drawn from nature to depict their new discoveries. Thus, a new collaboration developed amongst naturalists, artists, and draftsmen, bringing art and science together, as is true today. |

Create: Creating the Solution
Now we actually get to start making our final products! Students must first finalize their plan and consider both the time and resources they now have left before the project is due. Students will keep a detailed list of steps taken to create their gallery on their Create Worksheet.
